Description
Further contemplation on the nature of garlic. Watercolor and graphite. Each panel is ACEO size (3.5 inches by 2.5 inches). I might consider splitting them into ACEOs if anyone expresses interest in them.
This series was conceived as brushstroke practice. Whereas Garlic Part 1 was painted with cheap "sable" brushes that were unresponsive and clunky, this series was painted with Kolinsky brushes. (Utrecht Kolinsky Vermeer 221 brushes. [link] ) There were affordable, as Kolinsky brushes go, and felt a far sight better in my hand and on the paper. They picked up more water, more pigment, and kept a fine point better than the cheap no-name brushes I had used previously. I could also use a more delicate touch.
You definitely get what you pay for.

My friend, I know garlic (live on a farm), and you have done a wonderful job of capturing the shape and color. Never could draw those 'lil buggers, myself. I especialy like the 7th one.
