This is another study from the first session of my portaiture class, using a life-size plastic skull on a stick for reference.
Art teachers have told me in the past that the left side of my work isn't quite right. With this piece, I think I've figured it out. The right side is the skull as I saw it, in 3/4 profile, in perspective. The left side is what my brain THOUGHT it saw. Subconciously, I've twisted it forward, and drawn it as if I was looking at it straight on. If you cover up one side at a time, you can see the difference.
What I don't know is WHY my brain is doing that, and consistently doing it to the left side of my drawings.

draw from the middle out, start with the top "lip" then assert the nostrial section then make the cranium...
